Privacy policy

What we collect when you use Huro, why, and the choices you have.

In short

  • We collect what we need to deliver your orders and run your account.
  • Riders, our order team and a few service providers see only what they need.
  • We don't sell your personal data.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time.

1.Who we are

Huro Africa Ltd, trading as Huro, is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. We process it in line with Law Nº 058/2021 of 13/10/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy in Rwanda.

Huro Africa Ltd is registered with Rwanda’s National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA) as a data controller.

2.What we collect

Account details — your name, email address, phone number and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name, email and profile photo they share with us.

Orders — the items you order, your delivery address and notes, the delivery day and time you choose, the name and phone number on the order, and your order history. This applies whether you shop with an account or as a guest.

Used Market and messages — listings you post, including photos, descriptions and prices, and the messages and offers you send to other people.

How you use Huro — pages you visit, products you view, add to your cart or save, searches, and technical information such as your device, browser and errors you run into.

3.How we use it

  • to take, confirm, prepare and deliver your orders, and to call you about them;
  • to handle returns, replacements and refunds;
  • to run your account, cart, saved items and order history;
  • to run the Used Market, show your listings and pass messages between people;
  • to send you notifications you have chosen to receive;
  • to understand how Huro is used, fix problems and improve it;
  • to prevent fraud and abuse, and to meet our legal obligations.

4.Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal data. We share it only as follows:

  • Delivery riders receive your name, phone number and delivery address to deliver your order.
  • Our team via WhatsApp — order details, including your name, phone number and address, are sent to our order team through WhatsApp (Meta) so they can prepare your order.
  • MTN Mobile Money — payment details needed to match a payment to your order, and to send refunds.
  • Google and Apple — when you choose to sign in with them.
  • PostHog — our analytics provider. It records how Huro is used and, when you are logged in, links that activity to your name, email and phone number.
  • Cloudinary — hosts product and Used Market photos, including photos you upload.
  • Other Huro users — on the Used Market, people can see your listings and your name as the seller, and the people you message can see your messages and offers.
  • Authorities — when the law requires it.

Some of these providers, including PostHog, may store data outside Rwanda. We use them only where your data is protected as the law requires.

5.Data stored on your device

Huro stores some information in your browser so it works smoothly: your cart, saved items, orders you placed as a guest, recent searches, and whether you've closed the announcement banner. It also uses cookies to keep you logged in, and our analytics provider uses cookies or similar storage to recognise your device.

You can clear this at any time in your browser settings. Clearing it removes your guest cart and guest order history from that device.

6.How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account is active and for as long as we need it to deliver orders, handle returns, resolve disputes and meet our legal and accounting obligations. After that, we delete it or make it anonymous.

7.Your rights

Under Rwandan law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted, where we don't need to keep it;
  • object to or restrict certain uses of your data;
  • withdraw consent you have given, for example to notifications.

You can update your details and notification choices in your account. For anything else, contact us at hurorwanda@gmail.com. You can also complain to Rwanda's National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA), which supervises data protection.

8.Security

We protect your data with technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, and limit access to the people and providers who need it. No system is completely secure, so please keep your login details private.

9.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make significant changes, we will let you know on Huro.
